Randon
What Is It?
Radon is an odourless, colourless, and tasteless radioactive gas produced by the natural breakdown of uranium.
pCi/L means pico curies per liter. To find out how big pico curies are - Click Here -

Zone 1 - Counties have a predicted average indoor radon screening level grater than 4 pCi/L. |
High Potential |

Zone 2 - Counties have a predicted average indoor radon screening level between 2 and 4 pCi/L. |
Moderate Potential |
 |
Zone 1 - Counties have a predicted average indoor radon screening level less than 2 pCi/L. |
Low Potential |

How Does It Form
As the natural deposits of uranium throughout the Earth's crust decay, Radon is made. This Radon comes from the breakdown of uranium in rocks, soil and water. |
Effects In Us And The Environment.
Radon gets into your water pipes, windows in basements, basement drains, cracks in walls and fittings. When Radon gets into your home it moves into peoples lungs. Once in the lungs it starts altering the cells in the lungs causing lung cancer. The reason so many elderly people have lung cancer is because the length of time Radon spends in their lungs.
What We Can Do To Prevent or Reduce Radon?
There is not a known safe level of Radon, so there is always a risk. You can reduce the amount of Radon in your home by instaling a suction pipe that runs from the basement to the outside. The pipe collects the Radon and the fan pulls it out of your home. Another thing to do to reduce the amount of Radon in a house is filling the cracks on the walls and floors. |
