Q. There is a dirty vacant lot/yard/street corner near my house. What can be done about it?

A. Call the Department of Public Works at 467-7950 to report the problem. They will send an inspector out to check the property and can issue a warning and eventually a fine to the property owner. If it is a city owned property they can take steps to clean it up. Groundwork Providence also has a tool bank available to people who live or work in Providence. We can lend you the tools and gloves you would need for a neighborhood clean up for free.

Q. How do I get a recycling bin? 

A. Recycling bins are available at the Department of Public Works at 700 Allens Avenue for $5. DPW's phone number is 467-7950.

Q. How do I get a trash can? 

A. The City now provides every household with a special trash can that works the the Waste Management Trucks. Please call Department of Public Works at the above number if you have a problem with your city issued trash can.

Q. What kinds of jobs do you have for youth? 

A. Please see our job posting page for a description of our youth opportunities. Generally we hire youth during May/June for the summer and August/September for the school year.

Q. Do you have volunteer opportunities? 

A. Volunteers are welcome to become neighborhood recycling captains to teach their neighbors and peers about recycling. From time to time we also have one-day volunteer opportunities when we have large planting projects. In the spring volunteers are needed to participate in the Spring Clean Ups across the city.
